Apple’s AI Philosophy
At WWDC 2024, Apple unveiled its AI strategy. Unlike OpenAI or Google, Apple’s positioning is clear: AI is not a standalone product — it’s a system capability. AI is deeply embedded into Siri, writing tools, photo editing, and notifications.
Three Core Principles
Edge-first. Run models locally wherever possible, using dedicated AI compute units in iPhones and Macs.
Privacy architecture. When local compute isn’t enough, Apple processes on controlled servers without retaining data afterward.
Deep integration. AI woven into system-level functions rather than offered as a separate chat app.
Apple’s entry means edge AI is no longer a future trend but a present standard. For users accustomed to cloud LLMs, the difference in local inference experience is the biggest adjustment.
