The Core Argument

Stanley’s core thesis: truly breakthrough innovation rarely comes from goal-driven processes. It comes from interest-based exploration.

Implications for AI Research

Deep learning itself was a product of “exploration.” Hinton stuck with neural networks for 30 years when nobody thought it was the right direction. If everything were driven by short-term goals, such persistence would be impossible.

Implications for Personal Learning

The best way to learn is to follow curiosity, not rigid plans. Read that interesting paper, chase that unfamiliar concept — this “exploratory learning” is more sustainable than structured coursework.

This is perhaps why I started this site — not to execute a plan, but to document the exploration process.
